Today, I (Hanssie) am hijacking this blog so I can share a story that has touched my heart.
As I was working today…okay, okay fine, I was actually on Facebook, you know you do it too, so don’t judge, a post from PhotoDough caught my eye. Usually, I skip right past this stuff so I can focus on things like who changed their relationship status and if anyone posted new photos of their dogs and such, but the words “Help,” “Photographer,” and “Mom” compelled me to click.
PhotoDough is a website similar to Groupon and Living Social, but all the deals are photography related. Instead of posting a deal today though, PhotoDough is asking people to donate to Photographer and Mommy, Jen Burgess Thompson. Jen is a 37-year old wedding and portrait photographer from Redmond, Oregon who is battling advanced ovarian cancer. Her doctors have given Jen 12-18 months, but there’s hope: They want her to enter a clinical trial at the Mayo Clinic. The estimated price tag is $63,000.
So far, about $22,000 has been raised. I know times are tough right now, yet, today I spent $20 on lunch, $5 on a cup of coffee, $8 on candy (FYI: Peanut Butter M&M’s and Sour Patch Kids are expensive!) and $15 on a tube of lipstick. Tomorrow, I’m packing my lunch, skipping the coffee, candy and lipstick and giving that money to someone who needs it. Can I challenge you to do the same?
Let’s join together and do what we can. Thanks for listening.
